A Julliard graduate, Kevin Kline began his career touring the country with John Houseman?s acting company. Kline?s roles as Hamlet and Romeo won him rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. In addition, Kline has won two Tony Awards for "On the Twentieth Century,? (1978), and "The Pirates of Penzance,? (1981).

After working on the television soap opera "Search for Tomorrow,? (1951), Kline opted for the big screen. His first film, ?Sophie's Choice,? (1982) garnered him a Golden Globe nomination and continued praise from the critics. A role in the ensemble cast of ?The Big Chill,? (1983), would prove successful as well, leading to a role in the widely praised western ?Silverado,? (1985). Rounding out the decade, Kline won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in uproariously funny film ?A Fish Called Wanda,? (1988).

Kline?s career has been marked by an ability to play a diversity of roles in commanding style. He has played Hamlet in "Hamlet,?on television in 1990, the adventuesome Douglas Fairbanks in the bio-pic ?Chaplin,? (1992) and a comic role in ?Soapdish,? (1991).

In the 1990?s, Kline became associate producer of the New York Shakespeare Festival. He is married to actress Phoebe Cates.
