Sigourney Weaver

A graduate of Stanford University and the Yale School of Drama, Sigourney Weaver is best known as Ellen Ripley from the four ?Alien? movies. Her role in the second ?Alien? movie won Weaver both Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress.

Early on in her acting career, Weaver?s 5? 11? height worked against her, relegating her primarily to off-Broadway productions in ?Das Lusitania Songspiel, for which she earned a Drama Desk nomination, ?Titanic,? ?Beyond Therapy,? and ?The Merchant of Venice.? Off off-Broadway, her credits include ?Marco Polo Sings a Solo,? ?The Nature and Purpose of the Universe,? ?Gemini,? ?New Jerusalem,? and ?Conjuring an Event.?

Among Weaver?s notable film credits are ?Ghostbusters,? ?Working Girl,? earning Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress, ?Gorillas in the Mist,? for which she received Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress, and ?The Ice Storm,? garnering a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Weaver changed her name to a character in F. Scott Fitzgerald?s ?The Great Gatsby,? and her father Pat Weaver, was president of NBC television from 1953 ? 1955, pioneering the now standard talk show format on NBC's "Today" and "Tonight" shows; both his creations.
