Sissy Spacek

Born in Texas, Sissy Spacek studied drama at the Lee Strasberg Theatrical Institute before earning critical acclaim playing opposite Martin Sheen in Terence Malick?s 1973 film ?Badlands.? Word of mouth quickly built around Spacek after her Oscar nominated turn as the lead in Brian De Palma?s ?Carrie,? (1976).

A Best Actress Oscar for her role in ?Coal Miner?s Daughter,? (1980), became the centerpiece for Spacek?s steady stream of Oscar nominated performances in ?Missing,? (1982), ?The River,? (1984), and ?Crimes of the Heart,? (1986).

From her heyday as a major star of the 1970?s and 1980?s, by choice, Spacek?s on screen appearances dwindled with ?JFK,? (1991), and ?Affliction,? (1997), still speaking for her pull as an actress.
