The compelling text is taken entirely from the diaries, journals and letters of the characters portrayed, among them: Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the powerful founder of the women's suffrage movement who died in 1902 at age 87; the famous labor organizer, "Mother" Mary Jones (1830-1930), who led the fight against child labor; and Dr. Anna Howard Shaw (1847-1919), who as a frontier minister, protected herself by carrying a fully-loaded pistol at all times.
